The Unseen Landlords of the Digital World
Let’s be honest, most of us think the internet lives in a cloud. We tap on our phones, stream a film, and the magic just happens. It’s a lovely, clean, intangible idea. The reality, of course, is far more industrial. The ‘cloud’ lives in colossal, power-hungry, windowless buildings, and our mobile data travels through a forest of steel towers. It’s all bricks and mortar, or more accurately, concrete and fibre optics. And as an investor, I find that far more interesting than any fluffy cloud.
This physical backbone of our digital lives is booming, particularly in places like Brazil where a tech revolution is in full swing. And it presents a rather compelling opportunity, not in some flighty tech start-up, but in the companies that own the very ground this revolution is built on.
