The Credit Cycle Still Bites
Do not, however, mistake a neater exam for a healthier patient.
A kinder marking scheme does not turn a struggling borrower into a solvent one.
I find that optimistic investors often conflate regulatory relief with business safety. If commercial real estate defaults accelerate, or if small enterprises buckle under sustained pressures, a predictable stress test will not absorb the blow. The risk of capital loss remains entirely real, because credit cycles do not pause for bureaucratic adjustments. Furthermore, looser capital discipline might tempt bank executives into taking foolish risks down the road.
This overhaul injects a welcome dose of common sense into capital planning, but it is hardly a panacea. Lenders might soon enjoy clearer visibility, yet the harsh reality of the credit market remains as unpredictable as ever.
