Forget Sci-Fi, Follow the Plumbers
When a gold rush hits, the smart money doesn’t always go to the prospectors panning for gold. It often goes to the chap selling the picks, shovels, and sturdy denim trousers. The same logic applies here. Building these immersive digital worlds, whatever final form they take, requires a staggering amount of underlying technology. You need digital architects, virtual construction firms, and the utility companies that keep the lights on.
This is where I see the genuine opportunity. We don't need to bet on which specific virtual world will capture the public's imagination. Instead, we can look at the companies providing the fundamental tools. Think of firms like Unity Software, whose 3D development platform is essentially the digital equivalent of a cement mixer and a brick factory. Whether you’re building a game, a social platform, or an architectural model, you might well be using their tools. They could profit regardless of who ultimately builds the winning virtual city.
